One of the best place start in Cusco is the Main Square Plaza de Armas.The Cathedral, this beautiful sanctuary was built on the place where once stood the palace of Inca Viracocha, its marvales architecture with beautiful stone-work.  began in 1580 and took approximately one century to complete.It has around 400 paintings including those of the "School of Cusco" a very particular style developed since the spanish came to south america.There are two other churches attached to the Cathedral, El Triunfo to right and Jesus Marie to the left 
The complex is open for the public from 10:00 am to 12:00 and from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm
